Started off as a Biochemist (industrial year at ICI at Alderley Park in Cheshire) where she met Sqeze and married him at the end of that year. Followed him around England: Bristol where she did her PGCE, then Maidstone where she taught for a year at a large comprehensive school in Dartford (The Downs). From UK to Germany: Stuttgart – teaching English as a foreign language, Munich – nearly 2 years working at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry and then finally deciding if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em, where she retrained as a programmer and started her longest career to date in the IT world.
She has been a freelance consultant in the area of quality management and software testing since 1999. You can find out more about what she does on her own web site.
Currently trying to decide what her 5th career should be. Thinks she’s had enough of computers now – they still don’t understand her.
Ruth collects cat names – for the pussy cats she’s going to keep when she retires (soon she hopes but where? Portugal, Ireland, UK?) The current list goes like this (of cat names):
Boddington, Napolean, Oddbod (was going to be Oddbins but thought that too revealing ;-), Pixel, Smilla …

Known to family and friends as Sqeze (without a “u” or the second “e”).
Lived in Harare (Salisbury), Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) for three years as a child, and otherwise grew up in the UK in various locations (Sutton, Bristol, Bramhall, Leicester). Worked for around 7 years for the Central Electricity Generating Board as a programmer/analyst, where he had the chance to work on everything from commercial systems to process control of nuclear reactors. Met Ruth in Macclesfield, while she was doing an industrial year at ICI and married her in 1977.
Moved, with Ruth, to Germany in 1980 for a couple of years and seems to have got stuck there. Lived in Stuttgart for the first 2 years and then moved to his favourite city in Germany, Munich, until 1994. Since then Schmitten, near Frankfurt has been his and Ruth’s home – but his “Heimat” remains Munich.
Works as an Project Manager and Quality Manager for a German asset manager in Frankfurt. Current projects are enhancements to a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, based on Pivotal's eRelationship for the client portfolio managers that deal with institutional investors and supporting the use of SAP for fixed asset management. Also managed the quality assurance and testing team when we recently introduced SimCorp’s Dimension software to support the back office fund accounting processes.
