Lots of snow here today

Our pond this morning
We went out last night to visit friends in Wiesbaden. Not a bit of snow in sight. When we set off back home at about 23:00 hrs it was snowing.
Being Christmas, there weren’t many crews out clearing the roads – we decided to come back on the Autobahn as far as possible – about 45 km – and only saw one crew out. Most people were driving at about 50 km/h and you couldn’t see the asphalt. Of course the last 12 km from Oberursel to Schmitten, a climb of about 500 meters, wasn’t cleared at all, which made for quite interesting driving. The whole trip took over 2 hours instead of the normal 45 – 50 minutes and we were glad to make it home. The roads were very slippery. Today, we could see that there had been at least 10 cm of snow – fortunately it has stopped snowing for the moment; more is on the way according to the forecasters, and the temperature here was -7°c this morning.

Here in the far North (South Schleswig-Holstein) we have less than an inch of snow. The side roads are very slippery but the main roads clear… I dont have to work this week but am thankful that I can mostly work from home….
There had been that chance that I’d have driven down the A7 to near Ulm to collect a glider (on a trailer) that the club has bought but with the road conditions I’m thankful that someone else who is already “down South” will do the task.

We’ve had another 10 – 15 cm over night, and still more forecast. At least we’re used to snow here and the roads are now clear. Even down our very minor road. But keeping the drive in our little private road and our path clear is good for working off the excess Xmas pounds. I don’t envy your glider collector though.

The glider trailer came up the A7 to us yesterday. At least, it was parked on our airfield today.
We are probably in for more snow as we are on the western edge of the area with “Unwetterwarnung”
