Quirky kitchen appliances

There is no end to the number of unusual gadgets that you can buy for your kitchen. Dark Roasted Blend has a selection, with photos. You can, for example, get a slimline toaster that produces toast with smilies on each piece, a rabbit-shaped mixer or a roll-up microwave cooker. Good ideas for unusual presents, but you might have to hunt down the supplier for some items!

  • I found a quirky kitchen appliance because of my search for compound nouns.

Have you ever heard of an Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher?

    Hello Maria,

You probably won’t believe this, but I had one given to me 18 months ago for Christmas. I didn’t think it worked terribly well, and passed it on to a colleague at work who thinks it is wonderful! Even though you just have to drop the weight onto the cover on the top of the egg, there is obviously a knack to it. :-)

I usually bang all over the top of the egg with a teaspoon to crack the shell and then peel it off; Ruth uses a knife to slice the top off, and then eats the egg out of the top bit before tackling the rest of the egg. I guess there’s a lot of ways to open a hard-boiled egg…

  • Interesting indeed!

I crack mine open the old-fashioned way, like you do. Somehow I think these quirky gadgets belong to “quirky” people (no offense to your colleague though), who have well organized kitchen drawers or places to hang such things.

In our family of four, it is quicker to give the egg a whack than trying to find the Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher :)
