Who are the people described below?

I don’t know what the original motion said, but apparently it was “watered down significantly” …

…The motion they adopted stated that Israel has an undivided claim to Jerusalem and the West Bank, that Arab states should be “pressured” to absorb refugees from Palestine, and that Israel should do whatever it wishes in seeking to eliminate terrorism. Good to see that the extremists didn’t prevail then.

You might think they are members of an Israeli nationalist political party, but in fact they are members of the Republican party who voted at the Texas state Republican party convention recently.

I missed “this article”:http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,3604,1195568,00.html in the Guardian last week, but it makes interesting reading and goes some way to explaining why the Bush government sometimes appears to make completely irrational decisions. It is, however, extremely unsettling when you remember we are talking about the party governing the world’s most powerful nation.
