We have just got back from Valencia, from our latest site visit and meeting with Antonio. While we were looking for somewhere to eat on Tuesday evening we noticed some street art and modified street signs near the central market.

At first I thought the graffiti on the walls might have been by Banksy, but I am now fairly certain they are both by Escif, who is based in Valencia. The wall art is on Calle de Vitoria near to The Ginger Loft (which serves delicious food). Here’s a short interview with him. I have no idea who the modified street signs are by, but I liked them too.

We walked into Brighton’s Churchill Square yesterday and I spotted a book by Banksy in one of the bookshops. So despite having received far too many Christmas presents this year, we are going back with one more book now! If you haven’t run across Banksy before, you clearly haven’t being paying attention here.

Banksy, who no one can accuse of not having a sense of humour (remember this?), has updated Paris Hilton’s debute CD without her permission. The modified version features a topless picture of Paris with a dog’s head and tracks remixed by Banksy. I want one!

Britsh Museum displays prehistoric supermarket trolley

The British museum has been unknowingly exhibiting work by Banksy, better known as a graffiti artist. The “prehistoric cave-painting” was described as follows:

“This finely preserved example of primitive art dates from the Post-Catatonic era.
The artist responsible is known to have created a substantial body of work across South East of England under the moniker Banksymus Maximus but little else is known about him.
Most art of this type has unfortunately not survived. The majority is destroyed by zealous municipal officials who fail to recognise the artistic merit and historical value of daubing on walls.”
